RDA enables people with varying disabilities to take up riding, this could not happen without its many dedicated volunteers.
The benefits to the riders are enormous but the helpers also get a lot out of it too. Muirfield rely on the support and skills
their many volunteers bring. You don't even have to be involved with the riding. Help with fund-raising and administration
is always welcomed.
Here's what some of our helpers had to say........
"When we retired to East Lothian I looked around for a new interest, something to keep me active, to
meet people and to feel fulfilled. RDA fits the bill - very active, like minded friendly people and inspirational riders.
Perfect."
Rosemary
"In the past year that I have been a volunteer I have always felt that my efforts
are appreciated. Working as a member of a team who all work together and for each other is very rewarding. The pleasure and
satisfaction that the riders clearly get from their visits is very satisfying and seeing individuals continually able to do
more for themselves makes all the work worthwhile."
Shirley
" I have been helping at RDA for many years. I can say that the sheer
pleasure you feel when you see a rider's smile as their special pony is led in makes it all worth while"
Valerie
"Being new to the village I was looking for
a voluntary activity that would get me out of the house, meeting new people. A friend suggested RDA. At first I was worried
that I had no real experience of horses or disability. My concerns were put to rest when I realized that there was plenty
of "on-the-job" training from friendly people. That was almost four years ago. Now I am training to be an Instructor! "
Hayley
"I have never met a more friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated group
of people as I have at Muirfield RDA."
Joan
"I get a great sense of reward from the riders we help. Watching someone who is confined to a wheelchair
get on a horse and ride round the arena with a big smile on their face, is truly a very moving experience. I am very grateful
and proud to be a part of this team."
